Introduction
Throughout my 15+ years of experience as a guide of Indian students in foreign countries, I have witnessed the development of UAE into a third (or even fourth) option of a thousand families. At Gateway Educonnect, I have assisted 23,000+ students with admissions and visas to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France and Dubai - and the UAE student visa is among the quickest, parent-friendly paths that I have done business with. I still recall the question of a mother in Jaipur who enquired of me, "Abhinav sir, will my son be able to get his UAE student visa in a couple of weeks? He did - and now he is graduating from one of the Dubai campuses. Here are the basics you need to know about the student visa process in the UAE in 2026: who is eligible, the UAE student visa requirements, the UAE student visa fees, and the realistic UAE student visa processing time, with references to what I observe in each student intake season.
What Is a UAE Student Visa?
A UAE student visa refers to a one-year renewable residence permit which internationally acclaimed students use to live and study lawfully in the UAE. It is not a tourist visa - it is a complete residence.
- Your university is your formal sponsor (kafeel) when acquiring the UAE student visa.
- It spans the whole academic year and is renewed yearly until graduation.
- Residents are issued with an Emirates ID that doubles up as their national identification card.
- Nationals of the GCC do not require this visa; it is only pertinent to international students, such as Indians.
It is a question that is posed by parents, whether a Dubai student visa accorded to international students differs from the visa in either Abu Dhabi or Sharjah. The procedure is also quite similar, except that the issuing authority is different - GDRFA deals with Dubai, whereas ICP deals with other emirates.
The UAE Student Visa Requirements 2026.
The first attempt at the visa requirements of a UAE student will save several weeks of mutual exchange. According to the applications I look at with my team, the standard checklist of 2026 is as shown below:
- An authentic passport that has a minimum of six months before its expiry date.
- Verification of academic transcripts such as your 10th mark sheet, 12th mark sheet and degree.
- Unconditioned offer letter of a UAE Ministry of Education/KHDA accredited institute.
- A current passport-size photo as per the UAE immigration photo requirements.
- Document of payment of tuition fees or scholarly award by the university.
- A police clearance certificate, a requirement of some universities at the time of enrolment.
- Notarised guardian undertaking letter in favour of applicants under 18 years old.
- Clients must show evidence of having finances, including bank statements, although there is no specified minimum amount.
Document attestation is one of the needs that Indian families often underestimate. An academic document is usually required to be attested by the state board or university, thereafter the Ministry of External Affairs in India and lastly the UAE Embassy. This can take three to six weeks alone, and as such, we will always begin it as soon as a student has accepted their offer.
You must also have achieved English proficiency like TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS to gain admission to the majority of the Universities, but does not apply to the UAE student visa itself, which many first time applicants find confusing.

The average UAE student visa range of AED 7,000 to 10,000 (first year) and AED 1,500 to 3,500 (renewals) are quoted in most universities. All charges contain 5% VAT, and I always ask students to get an itemised breakdown of the fees in writing before they are charged anything.

Student Visa Processing Time in the UAE 2026
One of the largest strengths of the UAE over the US or UK when it comes to immigration is the UAE student visa processing time. The following is a common sequence on the timeline:
|
Stage |
Express option. |
Normal timeline |
|
Issues of entry permit |
7 -10 working days |
10 -14 working days |

4-8 weeks |
I would always recommend students to start their UAE student visa early enough (three months) prior to intake. This buffer delay is to account for free versus document attestation, background checks, or peak kickbacks at the university PRO office.

This is a required test, a blood test and a chest X-ray done at a recognised government centre.
Step 6: Sign up with Emirates ID Biometrics.
Fingerprints and a photo are also taken, and a temporary Emirates ID form is given out instantly.
Step 7: Stamping in Your Passport.
UAE student visa is endorsed in your passport after medical and biometric clearances.
A student missing his arrival-intimation email deadline in 2024 due to his missing correspondence with the Kota student, who almost missed his entry permit window, is one of my proudest memories. We photographed it up the university PRO in a matter of hours, and he sailed through- a reminder that tiny steps in the UAE student visa system are significant indeed.

Dubai Student Visa for International Students: What Makes It Different
An international student visa to study in Dubai also goes through the above procedure but is granted by the GDRFA and not by the ICP. The confusion that families have in choosing between emirates is what is more important, location or process, but the real answer lies in both.
- In Dubai, more than 60 accredited universities, most of them with UK, US and Australia branch campuses, are based there.
- The Dubai-specific application available at GDRFA will provide real-time tracking of your Dubai student visa as an international student.
- The turnaround time for processing a student visa in Dubai, referring to international students, is similar to that of other emirates, with a range of 4 to 8 weeks.
- Most international students who have a Dubai student visa have the right to part-time jobs for no more than 20 hours a week.

Common Mistakes I See Every Intake Season
- Submission too near the intake deadline, with no time left to have documents attested.
- There is the absence of the arrival-intimation email, which postpones the medical test appointment to a great extent.
- As the visa deposit is assumed not to be refundable, it may be refunded upon adequate cancellation.
- Mixing up university admissions training with UAE student visa training established by immigration departments.
- Failure to clarify whether the visa fees are part of the tuition package or not.
- At Gateway Educonnect, a student can launch global university applications in 100 seconds with our One-Click Apply, and our loans, accommodation and test-prep services, so the visa process is never done in a vacuum.
